Story

FOCKETYN DEL RIO Studio is an architecture office based in Basel, Switzerland, founded by Miquel del Río and Hans Focketyn in 2013 with flexibility in mind. Not interested in reproducing the status quo and providing standardized results, FOCKETYN DEL RIO Studio delivers precise and unique solutions with clear-cut gestures that embed projects in their urban context and activate communities, culture, and cities as a whole.

The firm is currently working on transforming the Kaserne Cultural Center, a large scale project of international scope. It is also building a listening room for aural experiences and is currently finalizing a school near Basel. Among the firm's completed work is Parterre One, a concert hall inaugurated in 2017. A series of smaller-scale commissions include art spaces, gastronomy, and public interventions. Amongst them is Quartiertreffpunkt, a community center in Basel's former harbor area.

The firm currently employs several architects in its Basel office, and works with an expanded network of collaborators and specialists based in Basel, Barcelona, Berlin, and Medellín. FOCKETYN DEL RIO Studio is the "universal translator" that talks to all active actors and puts all the pieces together in a coherent and wholesome ensemble.
